For Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Microsoft has completely redesigned the installation and configuration experience. Instead of running separate Setup programs for each component,.you can now install all Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 components from a single Setup program.

Before installing Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Service Pack 1 on a computer, you must uninstall any prior version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009. You cannot install Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Service Pack 1 on top of any prior version.

Key Concepts for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Setup

Before you install Microsoft Dynamics NAV, you should understand the following concepts about Setup.

Installation Options

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Setup offers six Installation Options, which each installs one or more components and is designed for a typical use or type of user.

Setup Configuration Files

You can customize the list of components to be installed and then preconfigure those components within Setup before creating a Setup configuration file. You can then use configuration file with other users. When those users run Setup with the configuration file, they get all customizations that you have built into the configuration file.

Required Security Configuration

After you install Microsoft Dynamics NAV, you must then set up security. For more information, see Overview: Setting Up Security. Without a security framework, even the user who has installed Microsoft Dynamics NAV software may not be able to run it until an administrator has created users and set up permissions.

Rapid Implementation Toolkit

For assistance with setting up companies in Microsoft Dynamics NAV, see the "Rapid Implementation Toolkit User Guide" (Dynamics NAV RIM Users Guide 2.0.pdf). You can find this guide on the Microsoft Dynamics NAV DVD, and, if you install the Documentation on your computer, in Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Application Guides\en-US directory.
