Managing Style Sheets for Data Export

You can export data from card windows and lists in Microsoft Dynamics NAV to other programs, such as Microsoft Office Word or Excel.

The data is exported as an XML file, and the file is formatted using a style sheet that has been imported into Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

You use the Manage Style Sheets window to import and export style sheets, and view the list of style sheets. Changes that you make in this window apply to all users of the database.

There are default style sheets installed with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, which can be used to export any form to Word or Excel. You need to import a new style sheet if you want to export to another program. You can also import style sheets that are made especially for one particular form in Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

To Import Style Sheets:

  1. On the menu bar, click Tools, Manage Style Sheets.

  2. In the Show field:

select: style sheets common to all forms

a specific form

select: style sheets for this form only, and then fill in the Form No. field. You can click the AssistButton in the field to select from a list of forms.

  1. Click Functions, Import.

  2. In the Style Sheet field, click the AssistButton and browse to the style sheet file.

  3. In the Name field, enter a description of what the style sheet is used for. You see this name when you select a style sheet to export data.

  4. In the Send-to Program field, click the AssistButton and select the program that the style sheet is designed for. Click OK.

  5. In the Import Style Sheet window, click OK.

The style sheet is now listed in the Manage Style Sheets window, and you can select it when you export a form by clicking Send Options Send Options.

Deleting Style Sheets

You can delete a style sheet by deleting the line from the Manage Style Sheets window. The file is deleted from the database and you can no longer select this style sheet.

Exporting Style Sheets

To export a style sheet to an .xslt file, select the relevant style sheet in the Manage Style Sheets window and then click Functions, Export.
