Using Table Filters

Use the table filter function to filter more than one field at a time.

It is a good idea to check your filters by occasionally using the table filter function to get an overview of all the filters that have been set in a window.

To Use a Table Filter:

Here is an example of how to use the table filter to specify criteria for several fields.

  1. Open the Chart of Accounts window.

  2. On the menu bar, click View, Table Filter.

Now you will see a window displaying the fields that are filtered. If no filters have been set, the window will show the field where the cursor was placed.

In the left column you can insert the names of the fields you want to filter. As an example, add the No. and Account Type fields to the filter window:

  1. On the top line, click the Field field. Click the AssistButton and the G/L Account Field List window appears.

  2. Select the No. field and click OK to copy the field name to the G/L Account - Table Filter window.

  3. Repeat step 3 to add the Account Type field.

  4. In the right column, enter the criteria for the respective fields:

Next to the No. field, enter 6000..9999.

Next to the Account Type field, enter Posting.

  5. Click Apply.

To see the result of the filter, click the Chart of Accounts window. It now contains only accounts with numbers in the interval 6000-9999 (income statement). The filter on Account Type field has removed all heading and total accounts, so that all the accounts in the window are posting accounts.

  6. On the menu bar, click View, Show All.

Now you can see all the G/L accounts again.

There are three buttons (plus a Help button) in the filter window. Click Apply to apply the filter you have entered in the field and see the result (while leaving the filter window open). Click OK to apply the filter and close the filter window. Click Cancel to close the filter window without saving changes you have made in the filter field since you last clicked Apply or OK.

Note

It is important to enter only meaningful filters. For example, it is possible to specify an interval that does not exist, and the program cannot check this for you. In order to enter meaningful filters, you must know the sorting rules that the program follows.
