Assigning Bin Codes on Journal Lines

When you create a consumption journal or an output journal, and the warehouse location where the items are either stored or will be stored is set up to use bins but not directed put-away and pick, you assign a bin code to the journal line to indicate that the item will either come from or be placed in that bin. The process to assign a bin code to a journal line is described below.  For simplicity, the example of a consumption journal is used.

To assign a bin code to a journal line:

  1. On the journal line, if the Location Code and Bin Code field are not visible, click the journal line and, then, on the menu bar, click View, Show Column to make the location code and bin code fields visible.

  2. Enter the line information as usual, and fill in the location code and bin code.  To select a bin code from a list of bins in the location, click the AssistButton to the right of the Bin Code field.

If the item has a default bin assigned, the program will automatically fill in the Bin Code field with the item's default bin for that location when you enter the location code on the line.

Note

To facilitate the putting away or picking of items, you can print out the document lines with the bin code information by clicking Print on the journal window.

  1. Complete the journal and post it as usual.

During the posting, the program will create warehouse entries to record the item quantity in the bin.
