Use this trigger to validate user entries. For example, you can use the OnAfterInput Trigger to change the entry "P" into the first day of the current period and then use this trigger to make sure that day is valid.

This trigger is executed after the OnAfterInput trigger and the default validation for the control. The form is not closed if an error occurs in the trigger code; however, the user input is validated.

OnValidate is also a field trigger at the table level. If both the field and control triggers are defined, the OnValidate (Fields) Trigger is executed before the OnValidate (Controls) Trigger (including the system default validation).

Note
You can use this trigger to write to the database. You cannot call the UPDATE function from this trigger.
