The Classic database server, also known as the C/SIDE database server, is a proprietary database server developed for earlier versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

NoteNote

The Classic database service does not interact with RoleTailored Architecture components.

The Classic database server is a Classic Architecture component in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009. However, it is not a required element of the Classic architecture; you can use the Classic client with Microsoft SQL Server as your database server. But if you have existing data on a Classic database server, and you do not plan to migrate this data to SQL Server, you can continue using the Classic database server in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009, though this restricts you to using Classic architecture components.

The Classic database server is installed by Setup as part of the Classic Server installation option.
