BOM Journal Line Table

List of Fields in the Table

In the BOM journal you can produce bills of materials (BOMs).

A bill of materials is an item that consists of several separate items, for example, a shelf that consists of 5 parts: 1 shelf, 1 base, and 3 panels. The bill of materials is defined on the item card when you create a BOM item by choosing Item, Bill of Materials, which displays the BOM Component table.

When you want to produce a BOM, it must be entered in and posted from a BOM journal. The program automatically makes a negative adjustment to inventory for the items that are included in the BOM and a positive adjustment for the BOM.

If the location uses bins but not directed put-away and pick, the negative adjustment is made from the default bin of the component items, and the positive adjustment is made for the bin entered on the BOM journal line.

If the location uses directed put-away and pick, the negative adjustment for the components is made from the inbound BOM bin that is specified on the Bins tab of the location card.  A positive adjustment of the BOM is made to the outbound BOM bin that is specified on the Bins tab of the location card.

To produce a BOM in the BOM journal, click the first empty line in the journal and fill in the fields in the table.

When you choose a BOM journal, the program displays the most recently used BOM journal batch. If you want to use another journal batch, click the AssistButton to the right of the Name field. The BOM Journal Batches window appears. Here you can choose from among the existing journal batch or create new ones.

It is possible to create three levels under the BOM Journals menu item: BOM Journal Templates, BOM Journal Batches and BOM Journal Lines. This lets you use different journals that are suited to different tasks. You can have several journals of the same type; for example, every employee can have his own journal.

There is also a recurring BOM journal under Periodic Activities. This is a special window in which you enter BOMs that will be posted regularly. You need to type entries in only once, and you can post the same information as often as you want. When you to post the same information again, you only need to choose Posting, Post.
