You assign general business and product codes to G/L accounts so that the program will automatically insert the codes on journal lines when you post sales or purchase invoices directly to G/L accounts from the sales and purchase journals. Before you can do this, you must set up general business groups and general product groups and you must set up your G/L accounts.
Open the Chart of Accounts window.
For each account with Posting in the Type field, click the AssistButton in the Gen. Posting Type field, and then select the appropriate option (Purchase or Sale).
In the Gen. Bus. Posting Group field, click the AssistButton to see the Gen. Business Posting Groups window. Select the line with the desired posting group, and then click OK to copy the code to the field.
In the Gen. Prod. Posting Group field, click the AssistButton to see the Gen. Product Posting Groups window. Select the line with the desired posting group, and then click OK to copy the code to the field.
